ms.dewey-Its Annoying

Posted by: pradeepexe on: October 10, 2008

Ms. Dewey is a Viral Marketing campaign started by Microsoft in October 2006. It also refers to the character of the same name, who is the campaign’s main subject. The Ms. Dewey website is an Adobe  flash-based experimental interface for Live search. The interface features a modern-looking cityscape as a backdrop with the character on the left side, while the search results appear on the right. The cityscape backdrop changes depending on the time of day.

Developed by advertising agency Mcann-Ericsson San Francisco and interactive production firm EVB, Ms. Dewey appears to be an interactive search assistant who audibly comments on searched keywords in her own style and makes random actions when idle, including taking props from behind her desk. The responses actually consist of about 600 video clips recorded over a period of three days.

Microsoft is not overtly marketing the website, and appears to be relying on media coverage to draw users in. Janina Gavankar plays the role of the Ms. Dewey character

Microsoft’s Worldwide telescope

Posted by: pradeepexe on: May 15, 2008

Microsoft keep continuing their amazing things. And now its Worldwide telescope

Microsoft has released a free public beta of its world wide telescope that lets stargazers explore the universe from their PC’s. It’s a rich web application that accesses high resolution images  taken by ground- and Earth-orbiting telescopes such as the Hubble Space Telescope, the Chandra X-Ray Observatory Center, and the Spitzer Space Telescope.

The main screen of the Worldwide Telescope contains stars visible to the human eye that are mapped into constellations. You can navigate with your mouse in any direction and zoom in or out with its scroll wheel. Points of interest appear when you mouse over. You can also use the top menu or search to find celestial bodies. Here you can see that the edge of the Big Dipper’s cup does indeed point to Polaris or the North Star, which is located at the plus sign.

Isnt it great…Its definitely great:-)..
